Creative Art:

What can you find outside to paint with?

A stick, flower, pointy rock? 

find some big leaves.  Grab some paper and crayons.  Tear the paper off the crayon and rub the leaves to see their pattern.  

You can also paint the leaves you found.

Campfire Hand print-

Get some yellow and orange washable paint, some twigs, leaves, and Elmers glue.

Have them paint their hand yellow and place it on card stock paper.  Then, have them paint their same hand orange and place it on the yellow hand print.  You get the idea. Glue the twigs in place of the "logs" and glue on some little leaves. 

Do you have marshmallows?

Have them use marshmallows to dip into two different paint colors to make a pattern. Dot it onto the paper. 

Then have them count the marshmallow dots.

Writing / Literacy:

I have attached a sensory soup recipe to the email.

Also attached is a nature walk drawing prompt.

You will also find a camping packet with several activities for writing and cutting. 

Science / Math:

With marshmallows and toothpicks - Can you build a tent for any small animal or any toy figure so they can camp? 

What do you think about pitching a tent up in the living room and "camping" for the night? Let them help put up the tent.

Devotional:

Psalm 34:8 - Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

Talk to your child and let them know God is like our tent - our refuge. He shelters and shields us when the weather gets bad.

Insects and Butterflies Theme

Question:  What is an Insect?

Answer:  It has 3 body parts -
Head, Thorax, Abdomen

and 6 legs.

Creative Art-

Gather some smooth rocks, fine paint brushes, and paint.

Paint your favorite bugs on the smooth rocks.

Fold a large piece of paper in half.

Draw half a butterfly.

Have them cut it out.

Then, have them paint ONLY on ONE SIDE.

Fold it over and press.

You have a symmetrical butterfly! 

Take an empty toilet paper roll.

Have them wrap white yarn around it over and over until they made a cocoon.  Give them a clothes pin to color it green so they can have a caterpillar to go in the cocoon.  

Writing / Literacy- 

This activity is geared for fun sensory.

Get some cocoa powder and corn starch. Mix equal parts.

SLOWLY add water to get a thick mud consistency.

You'll need to mix it before you pour it on a tray. 

Practice writing letters in the " mud " on a tray.

Write the sight word Look. Practice other letters as well.

All you need for this is a fly swatter and write out some sight words. Say the word and see if they can quickly swat the correct word.  Try this with letters, numbers, or color words.

Try some rhyming words.  All you need is to say simple words and ask them to think of a word that rhymes. Simple.

Even when they are making up their own words, it is still working the skills needed.

Write letters/numbers outside in the dirt with a stick.

Math / Science: 

Practice counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.

Put some movement to it.

Look around the yard for some small rocks and twigs.
Create insects with lining 3 rocks up and 6 twig legs.

Point and name the head-thorax-abdomen. 
Count out 3 legs on one side and 3 on the other side.

Make a simple catapult with two household items.
A rectangle and a cylender of some sort.
Get a toy bug and place it on the flat part and lauch it.
