All about us - Great first week!

We started our journals with a self portrait,
and started writing our names.

Of course, the plan wasn't for beads to litter the entire table.
We worked on beading pipe cleaners. This works

small muscles in their hands. It
helps improve their pencil grasp.
Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom...We have coconuts!
Using our senses, we touched, smelled, and heard the coconut.
They suggested descriptive words such as "woody" and "Itchy."
Most said "yucky" for the smell.
They were surprised when they shook it and could hear the water inside.

We compared the length of our names.
Who had the most letters, and who had the least about of letters.

"Let's count how many letters in your name."

Working together.

Name recognition practice.

We are writing our names.
How do we hold our pencils?

Painting our self-portraits.

These play dough mats have different
emotions to work the dough on.
"Can you make a surprise face?"

Creating music.

First day feelings chart.
We talked about how we were feeling on the first day.
Scared, happy, excited, sad.
We had a three way tie in the end.

What do we do in the minds-in-motion room?

"Tell us about yourself."
Getting to know each other.
This told me what they love to play and eat.
(Some things we make at school, I'll keep for their portfolios.
Don't ever think we're not busy working if their take home folder is empty. )
Dress Up.
