Wild about the zoo

Practicing letters in sand trays.
During literacy time, it's not always about pencil and paper.
We look for ways to bring different experiences to writing.
Here, they could use a craft stick or their finger to write letters.

Tape resist art.
There is a letter N under all that black paint.
We peeled off the taped N after the paint dried.

Painting with water colors.
They painted the background setting for
their black zoo animal silhouette

Yes, lemons are sour.

Homemade Lemonade.
After reading our recipe. We counted, cut,
and measured our ingredients.
Then squeeeeezed out the lemon juice.

Lion faces.
They designed their own lion face.
Snipped along the edges to make the lion's mane.
Then, added the water colors.

Creating animal cages.
The number cards indicated how many sticks to
place along the edge to encase the zoo animal.

Practice writing the letter Nn.

Practicing animal letter sounds.
A for Alligator, a,a,a.
After reading the story, Giraffes can't dance,
we practiced our own styles of dancing.
We listened to slow soft music and allowed the music to
move our bodies. Then, fast music with a beat.
