Healthy foods, healthy bodies

We started the week off learning about
Veteran's Day, and why it is an important day.

"Salad plate" art.
They glued different pieces to create
salads.

My Plate - This sheet consisted of 5 food groups.
Protein, vegetables, fruits, grains, and dairy.
They searched through a grocery circular for one or two
of each category. Then, cut it out to glue it on the specific area.

Let's get some fresh air!

Making fruit salad.
First, we washed our hands.
Each friend was given some fruit to cut up to
make our fruit salad.

They painted their own fruits and vegetables
onto their plates.

During literacy, we talked about our favorite fruits
and vegetables. In their journals, they drew a picture
and wrote the word for each food they picked

Each friend was given a food item clip.
They had to figure out if it was a healthy
or not healthy food. The hamburger was the tricky one.

Cutting / sorting practice.
They sorted healthy food / treats and glued
them onto the right category.

Homemade orange juice.
They pressed the juice out of the oranges
into their cups. They really enjoyed this activity.

After pressing their oranges, they drew a picture
of their healthy bodies.

Ordinal numbers.
We talked about what position they were in line.
First, second, third, etc...
